RED DEER ARTS COUNCIL

about

The Red Deer Arts Council is a professional arts service organization for visual, literary, and performing member artists as well as cultural organizations to enhance our community through the arts. Our Vision is of a vibrant, thriving community that celebrates and nurtures arts and creativity in Central Alberta. Our Mission Statement is to inspire, support, and stimulate arts and culture in Red Deer through education, advocacy, and programming.

We operate a public art gallery, a new community gallery and event space, coordinate promotions for monthly art gallery openings around town, host an annual artists open studio tour. We program an outdoor free summer concert series and feature local theatre, cinema, and dance events in our promotions. We host writing workshops, an annual book club celebration, and monthly writer’s open stage. We provide workshop for artists’ professional practice development in collaboration with the Red Deer Museum & Art Gallery and disburse 5 scholarships and 2 awards annually, supporting practicing and student artists.

The Hub 2.0 is a weekly program at our YMCA centering on arts programs for people with developmental disabilities. We lead the Alberta Culture Days planning committee with many organizations, and assist others to plan Pow-Wows, Winter Francophone Carnivals, and heritage celebrations. We lead advocacy for artists and the creative community in our brand new gallery/office/gathering space that is accessible, welcoming, and open to the public.
