Brady van der Heide was a young resident of the community of Lacombe who truly encompassed the virtues of citizenship. In memory of Brady's contribution to his community, his family has created a legacy in Brady's name called the Brady Van Der Heide Citizenship Award.
The award will be granted annually to students from École Secondaire Lacombe Composite High School Scholarship for demonstrating the following traits:
- Positive role model in terms of leadership, mentoring and participation in school and community activities
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships at school and in the community
- Genuine consideration for the feelings of others
- Contributes to the community through initiatives such as volunteering, fundraising, environment and animal rights
- Cooperative
- Dependable
- Responsible
