Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival’s 26th Annual Fundraising Campaign

In February 2024, ReelOut celebrated our 25th anniversary! Over the years, we have screened more than 1400 films from around the world. Reelout has also guest curated Canadian short programs for festivals in Turkey and the United Kingdom. In 2024, the festival welcomed close to 1600 attendees over 10 days. We hope you will continue to help us bring joy and excitement to our marginalized communities through the presentation of independent film from around the world.

Reelout Queer Film + Video Festival is the second-largest queer festival in Ontario and the longest-running film festival in Kingston. The festival celebrates Kingston’s diversity and promotes public awareness and understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, two-spirit, queer/questioning, and intersex  & asexual communities. Reelout’s magnitude and longevity are unique among small-city film festivals. Community support has been key to Reelout’s success and now more than ever its continued viability relies on the support of donors.

Our fundraising objective

For this annual fundraising campaign, we are hoping to collect $10,000 in online donations.

What do you get when you donate?

  • Less than $20: our eternal gratitude!
  • Between $20 and $49.99: a full tax receipt.
  • $50 and up: a full tax receipt, plus special perks, as detailed in the chart below!

Your donation matters

Every donation to Reelout, even a small one, goes a long way. Here is an approximate overview of the costs involved in providing audiences with the unique and outstanding viewing experience that Reelout is known for. We pay every CDN artist whose work is selected to screen during the festival.

  • Between $6500 and $32,500 for screenings;
  • More than $5000 of operating costs for travel fees for guest filmmakers;
  • $6000 for venue costs;

Outside of the festival, Reelout continues to be active and to program different events, most of which are free for the audiences. These activities also require important resources.

  • Operating the lending library year-round costs more than $28,000.

More info

As a non-profit organization, we face the challenge of relying on support from our community to sustain our activities. While Reelout’s $100,000 annual operating budget is funded by grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the City of Kingston, and the Kingston Arts Council, we rely on our community partners and sponsors to support the festival. We need more resources to continue to grow.
