The Relais is a non-profit organization founded on March 19, 1984 whose mission is to offer people living in a situation of great vulnerability a place of welcome and exchange open to all, so that they can improve their living conditions, enjoy a certain stability, get out of their isolation, revalue themselves and get involved in a process of care. The organization's mandate prioritizes 5 areas of action: 1-Reception and intervention 2-Food assistance/clothing/furniture 3-Social and socio-professional reintegration 4-Day centre and popular education 5-Links with the community/community and development of partnerships with community organizations and private companies.
ACTIVITIES
Food security:
Community meals 5 days / week, food distribution 2 days / week emergency assistance and soup / sandwiches free for people in vulnerable situations
Day center: Econo Bouffe, Articule (painting workshops), knitting, popular education workshops, special events, foot care, Reiki, Spectacled Man, Hapkido tax clinic classes, conferences, coffee meetings, workshops for children, etc.
Immigration sector: Reception, information, referrals, integration and intercultural rapprochement activities, thematic meals, etc.
Carrefour des Aubaines du Relais: sale of used clothing and household items at low prices, furniture and other emergency repairs, etc.
Relais Santé Beauté: community hairdressing, eyebrow waxing, home hairdressing on request, makeup for special occasions, etc. Service adapted for veiled women.
Reception/intervention: information, follow-up and individualized support, active listening and referrals to local resources and services, crisis management, adapted service for homeless people, refugees and asylum seekers.
Social reintegration and employment: subsidized programs, youth and adult internships, subsidized employment, volunteering, community and compensatory work, etc.
As of March 31, 2021, the organization had 4147 members from 67 cultural communities, 21 permanent employees, 7 subsidized employees, 234 volunteers, 3 interns and 72 participants in the social and socio-professional reintegration program (compensatory work, community work, etc.).
During the year, we distributed 191,640 bags of food and 277 lunch boxes to people in highly vulnerable situations of all origins. 350 to 400 food baskets in the pre-pandemic period are distributed each week. Please note that we have seen an increase in the demand for support to an additional 150 households per week since 2020, an increase estimated at 350 to 500 baskets per week.
In times of pandemic, essential food and response services have been maintained. In July 2021, we gradually reopened the other departments to people in vulnerable situations who may be experiencing one or more problems (homelessness, mental health, poverty, job loss, newcomers, refugees, etc.).
