We work to improve access to healthy food for all and support the development of a local, ecological and inclusive food system.
Our Mission
Carrefour Solidaire Community Food Centre (CFC) welcomes everyone and acts at the heart of the food system to support people experiencing food insecurity. It embodies the Right to Food in its actions through three complementary programming axes
Our Three Axes
Improving access to fresh and local food while respecting dignity, autonomy, and choice; Developing the skills of community members both in the kitchen and in the garden; and Mobilizing our community around social, environmental and political food issues.
Our Activities and Services
Collective kitchens: We provide start-up training, animation, logistical support and follow-up for groups of residents who want to come together to batch cook meals, enabling them to share costs of ingredients and make social connections.
Culinary workshops: We run educational, interactive, exploratory cooking workshops for adults, youth, seniors, and families and provide culinary entertainment at our produce market sites to raise awareness of healthy, sustainable eating.
Collective gardens and urban agriculture workshops: We run collective gardens, produce food and seedlings in our community greenhouse, create school gardens, and run workshops on gardening techniques, among many other projects!
Marché Solidaire Frontenac: A subsidized produce market that runs seasonally outside Metro Frontenac, providing easy access to fresh, local food. Become a Friend of the Market to support this great initiative!
Épicerie Populaire Trois Paniers: A year round grocery store located at 2375 Sainte-Catherine East featuring an innovative three-tiered pricing system to ensure access to healthy, fresh food for folks of all budgets.
Carte Proximité: We lead an innovative program to distribute self-recharging grocery cards (similar to food stamps) to folks experiencing vulnerability which allows them to shop for free for fresh, local, high-quality produce at community markets across the city.
Community Meals: We hold weekly community meals which encourage folks to gather around a hot meal to exchange and build connection.
CARAA: We host a citizens action group composed of "peer-helpers" who are engaged to help support their neighbors through collective action.
