The Dr. Borna Meisami Commemorative Foundation helps women rebuild their lives after gender-based violence.

Our mission is to provide concrete and compassionate dental and oral health care that helps survivors of gender-based violence regain their self-confidence and restore their overall health.

Through the Restoring Smiles Program, we offer free dental and oral-facial reconstructive services to women who have survived gender-based violence.

Every night in Canada, almost 4,000 women sleep in domestic violence shelters because it isn’t safe at home. 1 in 2 women report physical injuries, including to the face. Some women have visible trauma to their faces and mouths, while others suffer the compounded effects of neglect. For women to participate as equitable economic, social, and democratic citizens, they must be free of the facial and oral health impacts of domestic violence.  

When a woman experiences ongoing dental pain as a result of abuse, struggles to chew, speak, or sleep due to jaw pain, or avoids social interaction because of missing teeth, the cycle of domestic violence trauma is perpetuated.

Our network of 40 doctors and dental practitioners provide the best standard of care in North America. Our patients have fled abuse and are living in shelters or supportive housing, with no other access to dental support.
