GESSTWOOD CAMP & RETREAT CENTRE is located on a 62 acre lot in the centre of Essex County made up of playing grounds, beautiful forest, unique flora and fauna, meandering creeks and lots of wildlife. There are acres of trails throughout the site to explore and hike.
Gesstwood Camp has been serving the community for 58 years. However, its facilities are in dire need of upgrades & enhancements to keep up with the increasing demands of growing program rosters.
Summer Camp: Gesstwood Camp offers weeks of fun and self discovery for kids of all ages. Campers will enjoy action packed days with activities including swimming, crafts, nature hikes, creek stomping, creek science, drama, music, archery, frisbee golf, ropes course, capture the flag, campfire and much more.
The best part about camp is the experience the campers will get when they spend their nights in our A-Frame cabins, making new friends. A week at camp allows children the opportunity to make new freinds, create new memories, explore nature and discover their own skills in a welcoming and exhilarating environment.
Our Field trip programs:
Local schools choose Gesstwood Camp's SPRING PROGRAM as a wonderful location for their field trips through out the year serving all ages. Class experiences are tailored to the needs of each group. Students learn about environmental issues and awareness, including creek science, lifecycles, plant, animal and pond life. As well as other activities such as archery, music, drama, crafts, cooperative games and much more. Staff are trained in providing cooperative activities that help students work together to become successful as a group and as individuals.
ROPES COURSE-Challenges for Success ROPES Course activities and initiatives relate directly to experiences that individuals of all ages have to deal with in their daily lives.Unfamiliar roles and new group dynamics are experienced, and through a series of activities, initiatives and challenges, facilitators work with each group to explore and develop leadership, trust, communication skills, cooperation, goalsetting, team building and problem-solving skills.
Individuals improve their understanding of themselves classmates/colleagues. The courses create a series of obstacles that provided physical, mental and emotional challenges. Success is not determined by how well individuals or groups perform, but rather by the extent to which they are willing to try something new and work together to accomplish a task.
The course is designed, built and maintained by ROPES course experts, and use state-of-the-artsafety equipment and standards.
The facilities can also be rented out on weekends for a day trip as well as overnight stays. Various groups use the facilities to host reunions, retreats, conferences, family celebrations, weddings etc.
