Canada 150: Make Safe Water Accessible to All Canadians

Help students, the leaders of the future, to learn about drinking water quality issues and solutions in a hands-on way by sponsoring water testing kits for them to use in their classrooms. Currently, Canadian teachers are waiting for over 1,700 sponsored educational kits to be sent to their schools. These teachers would like to use these valuable resources with their students, but they do not have the funds available to make this possible. After using water testing kits in their classrooms, students and their teachers often take action to share what they learned with others and to alleviate drinking water quality issues. By using Operation Water Drop, Operation Water Pollution, and Operation Water Biology kits in their classrooms, students will become aware of many different components and elements (copper, nitrate, arsenic, etc.) that can be in their water and the effects and health concerns related to components/elements in the water, become much more aware of their water source and what might pollute it, learn about the different methods used to treat water, and learn about the effect the water's pH can have on aquatic life. As a result, these students will become better informed scientists, engineers, health professionals, and leaders of Canada's communities, provinces, and nation in the future.

Educational kits will be sent to schools in the same community as donors or in communities near donors. An Elementary Operation Water Drop kit can be sponsored for $85, and an Operation Water Pollution kit, Operation Water Biology kit, or High School Operation Water Drop kit can be sponsored for $170. Operation Water Drop kits and Operation Water Biology kits are good for a one time use with a classroom of approximately 30 students. Operation Water Pollution kits are guaranteed to be reusable for at least two years, so hundreds of students can use them! These kits are used by students in grades four to twelve.
