Day Camp Appeal 2023

All aboard for a summer of fun!

We are writing to you today with great excitement and enthusiasm for our upcoming summer camp program at Saint Columba House. We call it The Little Camp That Could*, inspired by the beloved children’s book The Little Engine That Could. Just like that little engine, we believe that, with your help, we can make a difference in the lives of the children and families that spend time at Saint Columba House.

For more than a century, we have been a beacon of hope and support to people in need in the Pointe-Saint-Charles community. From our after-school program to our youth leadership initiative for at-risk youth and our flourishing community garden, we work tirelessly to contribute to and empower the lives of those around us.

This summer, 71 youths from low-income families between the ages of 6 to 14 will have the opportunity to take part in a six-week long unique quality camp experience.

Our day camp is truly the little camp that could. We believe in creating a safe and caring space for every child to embrace all the fun summer has to offer. We offer a full day of activities and post-camp care. We also offer swimming twice a week, special weekly outings, trips to the beach on Fridays, as well as music and gardening and other workshops.

We are very glad to be able to offer this camp at a very affordable rate in 2023. In fact, the Saint Columba House Day camp is being offered at an exceptionally low cost to make it accessible to low-income families and their children. It is our intention that no child be turned away due to lack of income.

Lisa-Marie wrote, “Being able to send my children to a day camp that is so affordable has given me the opportunity to see my children thrive as they enjoyed so many summer activities. Thank you for making it possible.’’

You should know that our day camp is not just fun and games. We are committed to building lifelong relationships and connections among the children, staff, and other Saint Columba House program participants. Campers in their teens have a chance to spend time with adults with developmental disabilities, as well as with seniors, which in turn helps them become better acquainted and more sensitive to those around them. They come to realize that everyone has something to offer. One of the things we are most proud of is that we can offer a space for kids with special needs for them to thrive. We treasure every child.

Sam’s mum wrote, ‘’We were very fortunate to have found a spot in the Saint Columba House Day Camp. Sam loved going and looked forward to each and every morning. Also, the fact that the ratio (of children to counsellors) is smaller means there are less people in each group, which is a perfect fit for my autistic son. His favourite activity was going to the pool. ‘’

We believe that our Saint Columba Day Camp is truly unique, and we are committed to providing an exceptional summer experience for every child who takes part in it.

We know that times are tough, but we need your help. We are grateful for any contribution you can make to support our Saint Columba House Day Camp and help us get our very own Little Camp That Could out of the station, down the tracks and up the hill this summer.

Thank you for your financial contribution. It means the world to us and to the children.
