Saint John Naturalists Club

about

Welcome to the Saint John Naturalists’ Club, a community united by a shared passion for appreciating and protecting nature. Since 1962, we've been dedicated to studying, conserving, educating and enjoying the natural world around us.

Our monthly meetings, held on the third Thursday of each month from September to May at 7PM, are open to all who are curious about nature. These gatherings feature informative talks by guest speakers who speak on topics related to the environment.

We believe in getting out there and experiencing nature firsthand. We organize workshops, nature walks, and outings on a regular basis. These activities allow us curious minds to connect with the environment and learn about its intricacies up close.

Our club runs four major conservation projects in Southern New Brunswick:

  • Point Lepreau Bird Observatory (est. 1995): This monitoring station in Southwestern New Brunswick plays a crucial role in tracking seabird migrations, contributing to global bird conservation efforts.

  • Monarch Butterfly Conservation Project (est. 2006): Our project involves tagging migrating Monarchs in the fall and distributing milkweed seeds to promote their habitat.

  • Greenlaw Mountain Hawk Watch (est. 2008): Located strategically in Southwestern New Brunswick, this station helps us monitor and understand the patterns of hawk migrations.

  • Shorebird Education and Conservation Project (est. 2019): This project educates the public about the importance of protecting shorebirds that visit our beaches during their migration. We also conduct a shorebird census as part of this effort.

At the Saint John Naturalists’ Club, we invite you to be part of our mission. Whether you're a seasoned naturalist or just starting to explore the outdoors, there's a place for you in our community.
