SaltSpring Therapeutic Riding Association (SSTRA) – Spring is the time for our horses to go back to work! After a long winter, they were ready and so were we – with programs in conjunction with the local school district, multi-day camps, and expanded lesson capacity. We were also ready and excited to announce financing for a roof over our outdoor arena! This would provide shelter from the elements making our facility safer for horses, riders, instructors, and volunteer side-walkers. The covered arena also enables us to increase our program and lesson capacity. Sadly, due to COVID-19 restrictions, our programs are shut down, the stables closed to all except essential personnel, and delivery/construction of the roof postponed until further notice.
Community support and donations are essential for SSTRA. We acknowledge and are grateful for the caring and generous spirit of Salt Spring Islanders. In 19 years of operation, our programs have contributed to the well-being of numerous riders, helping many to overcome a variety of physical and/or developmental challenges. Now more than ever, we are committed to continuing to support our community through therapeutic riding services.
Regardless of COVID-19 restrictions, our horses still require feeding, stabling, and exercising. Now more than ever, and especially without the ability to generate income to pay for these basics themselves, the horses need your continued support.
The minimum monthly cost of maintaining our 4 fantastic therapy horses – Shooter, Domino, Timber, and Chip – is $6,000. The average monthly cost increases to $9,300 when programs and lessons are running. Please help us serve you – donate* today – visit our website (http://www.sstra.ca/) or CanadaHelps
