Samaritan’s Purse is responding to the devastating earthquake in Venezuela in Jesus’ Name. We are sending a Disaster Assistance Response Team, which will include some staff members from our Colombia country office. We will be assisting with medical, water, sanitation, and hygiene needs, among others.
Background: On Wednesday, June 24, two earthquakes — one a magnitude of 7.2 and the other 7.5 — struck in north Venezuela just a minute apart. Buildings crumbled in moments, trapping a yet unknown amount of citizens in rubble. The death toll is expected to be in the thousands. This is Venezuela's worst earthquake disaster in more than a century.
