SASKATOON FRIENDS OF STUDENTS AND KIDS INC

about

The mission of Saskatoon Friends of Students and Kids, Inc., is to support student parents in graduating from high school with a path to further learning and employment, strong families, and community participation. The supports will be delivered through the Jacoby Centre and Millie’s Early Learning Centre at Nutana Collegiate Institute.

Millie’s Early Learning Centre provides free daycare services for Nutana students, while the Jacoby Centre offers comprehensive parent support. Both programs are housed within Nutana Collegiate, ensuring accessible, integrated support for student caregivers and their children.

Millie’s Early Learning Centre is a holistic, loving environment for infants and toddlers of student parents attending Nutana Collegiate so they can complete their education.

It is our mandate to contribute to the formation of each child’s overall education by constructing the foundation of a positive learning and social environment. We believe in the necessity to invest in very young children so as to enhance their future. We are a supportive community that nurtures an educational, home like setting which models respect, cultural sensitivity and healthy lifestyles.

We are a dedicated staff of Early Childhood Educators and accommodate children from birth to 30 months – in total we have 17 spaces which allows for a desirable, higher caregiver-child ratio.

We want everyone in our community to know the special place Millie’s Early Learning Centre is for our young children and student parents.

Our goal is to support student parents, caregivers, and expecting parents in completing Grade 12 while developing plans to pursue further education and/or secure meaningful employment within the community. The Jacoby Centre is committed to fostering student success by building on individual strengths, knowledge, and lived experiences. We aim to provide the comprehensive supports needed to empower students to strengthen parenting skills, develop meaningful community connections and relationships, and contribute positively to their families and communities.

The Centre offers a range of parenting programs, academic supports, peer and community resources designed to promote the healthy development of parents, children, and families. Programming is culturally inclusive, celebrates diverse populations and is responsive to student needs. Programming includes pre- and postnatal health resources, child development, healthy relationships, nutrition, community connections, leadership opportunities, and more. Programming is governed by and aligns with the Canadian Action Plan for Children.

The Jacoby Centre collaborates closely with Nutana staff and maintains strong partnerships with numerous community agencies, including Family Services, the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the Saskatchewan Prevention Institute, CHEP, Healthy Mother Healthy Baby, and others. Together, we provide a holistic approach to supporting positive, healthy outcomes for young families.
