Save Our Seine River Environment Inc. GivingTuesday!

This Giving Tuesday, Save Our Seine River Environment Inc. is proudly participating in this global day of giving!

Save Our Seine (SOS) is a non-profit organization and registered charity in Winnipeg, Manitoba, whose mandate is to preserve, protect, enhance, restore and repair the urban Seine River and surrounding greenway, to raise public education & awareness of and improve public access to the Seine River and surrounding greenway, and to work in partnership with governmental, business and other non-profit organizations for stewardship planning of the urban Seine River and surrounding greenway.

Our vision is for a sustainable and protected urban Seine River that provides a healthy riparian forest habitat for vegetation and wildlife and contributes to the quality of life of all residents and visitors.

Every summer since 1994, SOS hires a team of 4-5 youths, between the ages of 15-29, to tend to the urban Seine River and surrounding Greenway. That's 30 summers of cleaning the 26.2 km of urban river that winds through numerous areas and communities (with varying socioeconomic status) within Winnipeg, MB.

These hard working folks are active from June-August, with their main duties:

- Removing Garbage and Debris- Clearing fallen trees and log jams- Invasive Species management- Some trail maintenance.

Without these yearly annual clean-ups, the shallow and narrow river winding through Winnipeg would soon become clogged and stagnant. The Seine River would be a very different ecosystem if it weren't for the efforts of each year's team and the dedication of each member!

Save Our Seine Environment Inc. is located on Treaty 1 territory, the original lands of Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota and Dene peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. We honour and respect the Seine River and its surrounding land that we provide stewardship for at this time.
