Forest birds are captured in mist-nets, banded, and then released during spring & fall migration. Demonstrations are offered most mornings.
Our Mission
The purpose of Save Our Songbirds is to advance education by conducting research on migratory songbirds, operating monitoring stations (McKellar Island Bird Observatory), and disseminating the resulting information to other wildlife professionals and to the general public. To provide opportunities for people to engage with nature.
About SAVE OUR SONGBIRDS
Save Our Songbirds conducts principal research on migratory songbirds with a focus on birds migrating through Thunder Bay, Ontario. Our migration monitoring & bird banding station on McKellar Island has been operating since 2014 and we are full members of the Canadian Migration Monitoring Network. Here we track the numbers of birds migrating through this area spring and fall by mist-netting and banding. In this location, so close to the city, we will have many opportunities to interact with the public, to educate and engage. We need your help supporting the biologists in their work. Connect with us on Facebook at www.facebook/mckellar.
