2022-2023-Season

The Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra's 2022/2023 Season is our 43rd Season and we hope you will donate and give your support to maintaining Great Music in Scarborough.

This season offers a combination of live music concerts as well as online digital content offered through our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/SPOGreatMusic). You'll see from the music we've programmed for this season, it represents the wonderfully diverse qualities of our Scarborough community.

Even under pandemic conditions and restrictions during our 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 Seasons, the SPO created and released over 180 music video performances on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/SPOGreatMusic), totaling over 19 hours of music content, plus we released over 15 hours of SPOGreatMusic Podcast content in 20 episodes (https://www.anchor.fm/SPOGreatMusic). We were also recognized by the Canadian Music Centre in 2021 with the John Beckwith Award for these efforts and for our ongoing, strong dedication to Canadian composers.

Our 2022/2023 Season will begin Saturday, September 24, 2022, with a live concert (which will also be live-streamed) and new online music performances. The regular season consists of six live concerts (https://www.spo.ca/season-line-up/).

Founded by conductor Clifford Poole in 1980, the SPO has evolved into one of Ontario's most impressive community orchestras. Under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Ronald Royer, the last 10 years have seen the SPO rebuild and grow into an ensemble that delivers impressive performances.

The SPO has also released our first commercial CD in 2017, to celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary and great Canadian composers in our own community. This CD continues to receive rave reviews from around the world. The same year, the SPO added the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra Women's Choir, under the leadership of Yiping Chao. A new SPO CD will be released in the late spring of 2023.

The SPO not only performs, it offers unique opportunities including Community Outreach activities and our "New Generation Composers Workshop", which supports and promotes young composers. We also work to include other musical groups in our community, including the Toronto Choral Society, Sistema Youth Choir, and more. We also include guest artists, such as internationally-renowned violist, Máté Szücs, Alexander Panizza (piano), and emerging artists, such as Shreya Jha, Alex Sandoval, and more.

With strong leadership and dedicated musicians, the SPO looks forward to many more years of bringing Great Music to Scarborough and the GTA.

Thank you for your generous support!
