SeaChange 2024 Fundraiser

Help us in making waves for coastal conservation!

We made a splash in 2023! Thanks to the help of generous donors and funders, SeaChange:

  • Removed over 4 tonnes of debris from the Salish Sea
  • Imaged 3,787 km of coastline in British Columbia, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick
  • Connected with communities at 12 events
  • Planted 1,000 shoots of eelgrass
  • Shared our work at 13 conferences, symposiums, and workshops

Now as we look forward to our plans for 2025, we need your help to make them happen! Your donations will help us to raise awareness and remove invasive algae from the coast, fix up our research boat, and bring marine educators to the team!

Sargassum Initiative:

In 2025, we are planning to launch a new initiative to raise awareness about the invasive algae Japanese wireweed (Sargassum muticum). Working with Cedar Coast Society, we plan to conduct surveys to understand the spread of Japanese wireweed, launch a community action campaign, and strategize the management Japanese wireweed along BC coasts.

Research Boat:

Thanks to a generous donor, we were gifted a boat earlier this year! This boat, named “Sarah V” will allow our team to work along more inaccessible parts of the coast, collect data on new sites and monitor previous sites more efficiently, and help minimize our costs. But she needs a lot of work to be ready for what we have planned!

Marine Education:

One of our 2025 goals is to revive and expand the SeaChange education program! During COVID, our education program fell by the wayside. As we have spent the last few years growing our team and initiatives, we are ready to bring back an expansive education program! Funds will help us formulate the new curriculum and welcome educators to the team.

Our 2024 fundraising goal is $10,000!

Every donation counts! Please keep SeaChange in mind as you plan to give back for Giving Tuesday.

If you donate $10 or more, you’ll receive an exclusive SeaChange sticker (4x4) featuring a new illustration, created by Amanda Key. This illustration captures the heart of our work — from ShoreZone surveys and the Resilient Estuaries of the Salish Sea project to research and outreach.

This sticker is only available with donations until January 1, 2025, as a special thank-you for donors and will not be available for purchase. If you have already donated to our Giving Tuesday campaign, you will receive a sticker. All stickers will be mailed in 2025.
