Building an efficient food recovery network that uses food to fuel opportunity and reduces the environmental impacts of waste.
No Waste. No Hunger.
About SECOND HARVEST
Second Harvest is a charity that rescues fresh, surplus food, that would otherwise go to waste, from grocery stores, manufacturers, distributors, farmers, restaurants, and hotels. That food is delivered daily to 1,500 social service agencies who feed more than 519,000 Canadians experiencing hunger throughout the year. Since 1985 Second Harvest has rescued and delivered over 155 million pounds of good food, thus preventing more than 192 million pounds of greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. Second Harvest’s food rescue program addresses two issues – hunger relief and waste reduction.
