ENGAGE provides community services to older adults, their families and caregivers, enabling them to lead full, engaged and meaningful lives
About Brella (formerly Seniors Come Share Society)
Since 1977, Brella has been making a difference by providing community-based services to older adults, their families, and caregivers, enabling them to lead full, engaged, and meaningful lives. Our vision is to live in a safe, inclusive, engaging, and diverse community where older adults experience dignity and feel valued. Our values are integrity, respect, compassion, inclusiveness, collaboration, and excellence.
Dementia, Caregiver, and Family Services
At Brella, we recognize the significant impact that caregivers make to our communities. According to research, at-home caregivers contribute tens of billions of dollars’ worth of unpaid services annually to our Canadian health care system. While they find their work rewarding, caregivers face psychological and physical strain and often overlook their own health warnings. Our compassionate services aim at supporting caregivers by respecting where they are in their journey. This service area is in most need for financial support.
Community Services
Our Community Services have been consistently responsive to the emerging needs of aging adults, regardless of their socio-economic background, ethnicity, ability, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. Our inclusive programs allow people to stay at home for as long as possible, provide access to resources, and facilitate meaningful connections with people of all ages. This service area depends on many volunteers to deliver compassionate services and is also in need of financial support.
Adult Day Program
Our Adult Day Program is offered in person in various neighborhoods of Surrey. This program is designed to offer holistic services to people who experience complex health issues, including various levels of cognitive decline, but who are not ready to move permanently into residential care. Gerontologists credit such programs to improve the physical and psychological health and social participation of people receiving services. The programs have the added social benefit slowing the escalation of health complications and delaying long-term care. Participants who attend the Day Program can expect a pleasant experience that includes therapeutic activities, health monitoring, nutrition, hydration, and personal care.
