What we're working to address

Illness is the leading cause of personal bankruptcy. Patients in treatment with life-threatening illness often struggle financially because they are out of work. Parents or spouses stop working to care for the patient and bills become harder and harder to pay.

Shine Through the Rain assists these patients and their families with their rent bills, utility bills and transportation costs (including hospital parking). We also provide grocery cards to our families.

Our Strategies

Shine through the Rain offers several programs to assist those who are currently in treatment. Our Rainy Day Fund provides financial assistance to help pay for rent, utilities and transportation costs. Our Rainy Day Gifts program sends care packages to patients to help lift their spirits. We provide camp scholarships for children who are ready to return to camp and being a kid again and we supply several oncology camps with backpacks for all the children attending.

Creating Change

We want every patient and every caretaker to be able to focus on healing and not stressing about bills. We want to take some of the stress of being ill away - and make sure no one is scared of going without a home, without hydro, or unable to reach their hospitals and doctors.

Long-term Desired Outcome

We're working on making sure no one who's currently in treatment has to worry about losing their home, getting their water and power turned off or not being able to get to their treatments.
