Our Mission

The Sidney Concert Society is a registered charitable organization which operates the Sidney Classical Orchestra, a professional chamber orchestra providing high quality classical music to the communities of Sidney, the Saanich Peninsula and the CRD.

The SCS provides opportunities for performance by local musicians of all ages, both as players in the orchestra and as soloists, and presents four concerts per year which take place from October to May. Included in the season is a Young Soloists Concert. In addition to classical works, premieres of new works created by local composers are presented each season.

About SIDNEY CONCERT SOCIETY

The Young Soloists Program was first activated in the Sidney Classical Orchestra’s 2007-08 season, and consists of a classical music concert featuring an adjudicated selection of 5 - 8 soloists between 10 and 25 years of age. The soloists perform works of their own choosing that are approved by the Artistic Director, accompanied by members of the orchestra. This program is intended to provide youth with the inspirational experience of performing with a professional classical orchestra, rarely available to them elsewhere.

The Sidney Concert Society has presented classical music concerts since 1992 with increasing levels of audience, professionalism, and youth programs. The Sidney Classical Orchestra and its conductor, Stephen Brown, are well respected for their work with young musicians and their warm and direct contact with the audience.
