Our Mission

Nearly ten percent of people living in the GTA are Deaf or hard-of-hearing. Recognizing that disadvantaged Deaf adults and Deaf children have a number of significant needs:

Silent Voice serves Deaf children, Deaf youth and adults, and their families in an American sign Language (ASL)environment. We are dedicated to improving communication and relationships between Deaf and hearing family members and Deaf and hearing members of our community. Silent Voice is an agency grounded in Catholic values, offering services to the whole community. We value and respect the dignity and worth of ALL people.

We fulfill our mission by providing the following services, with preference given to those most in need:

Sign Language Summer Program - seven-week day camps for children operated in an ASL environment.

Family Communication Program - through a Deaf teacher brings ASL skills into the home.

Deaf Parenting Programs - providing accessible parenting education to Deaf parents.

Recreational Programs - Deaf children and their hearing siblings develop social skills by interacting with Deaf peers and role models.

Youth Program - Deaf secondary school students look to us for leadership, social and linguistic benefits not available in their school environment.

Housing Resource Centre - Deaf clients looking for help to either find accommodation within their means, or assistance with their negotiation with agencies and landlords.

Deaf Adult Services - Assists Deaf adults who need extra help in dealing with local government authorities, tax returns, public officials and systems

About SILENT VOICE CANADA INC

Communication is the cornerstone of all human relationships. Silent Voice Canada is a community organization, founded in 1975, serving Deaf children, youth, adults and their families in American Sign Language (ASL), with programs that focus on communication.

Silent Voice is the only organization in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) offering community- and family-based support to Deaf children and adults in ASL - through social-recreational programs for Deaf children and their hearing brothers and sisters, and an in-home ASL teaching program for families. Also, in partnership with other organizations, we provide special assistance and outreach services to socially and economically disadvantaged Deaf adults living in the community.

Communicating with ASL empowers a Deaf child and adult, opening up a world they had never imagined.
