The Siminovitch Theatre Foundation (STF) is a national charity that strengthens Canadian theatre by investing in groundbreaking artists. When creators receive meaningful support and visibility, they make work that connects communities, shares diverse stories, and helps us imagine new futures together.

What We Do

Each year, STF brings together a national jury to recognize four outstanding mid-career theatre artists, who each select an emerging artist to mentor. This model has built a growing network of more than 130 theatre creators across Canada. We support theatre artists through funding, mentorship, residencies, and opportunities to connect and collaborate. We also help artists gain national exposure through professional profiles, short documentaries, and filmed conversations that explore their craft, creative journeys, and ideas, while helping audiences across Canada better understand and appreciate theatre.

Why It Matters

Theatre plays an important role in helping communities tell stories, explore complex ideas, and build shared understanding. Yet many artists face barriers to mentorship, resources, and national visibility that limit their ability to sustain their practice and reach wider audiences. STF responds by uplifting artists whose voices strengthen, expand, and diversify the Canadian theatre ecosystem.
