SING! builds community with people singing together.
SING! The Toronto Vocal Arts Festival is Canada’s premier a cappella festival (singing without instruments) held every year in May. We bring together thousands of professional singers (Canadian and international), students, teachers, divas and in-the-shower belters. We:
- create a safe space for learning
- illustrate that the voice has no limits – knows no constraints of genre, language or cultural background.
- ask participants to step outside their comfort zones and try something new
- educate and inspire todays’ youth
- foster a new and revitalized patronage for the vocal arts
Started in 2011 on a shoestring budget with 7 enthusiasts, we now are the best in Canada. We lend our expertise to festivals in other cities to expand the enjoyment of a cappella music.
We host an annual downtown Toronto festival in late May plus partner events throughout the year.
Our exclusively a cappella programming falls into six distinct 'containers':
- SING! In Concert - a premium ticketed series, aimed at the traditional concert-going crowd, presenting national and international vocal groups with Toronto artists
- SING! In The Clubs - a more intimate and immediate experience, including the "Afterglow" gatherings of artists and audience post-concert
- SING! Free - offers multicultural and multi-stylistic acts, representing Canada’s unique cultural diversity, all free to the public outside at Ontario Place Trillium Park.
- 4. SING! And Learn - for the general public, seminars and masterclasses offer opportunities to work face-to-face with some of the greatest vocal ensembles in the world, and allow visiting established artists the opportunity to network with Toronto performers and groups.
- SING! Plus - multi-disciplinary events and unique, eclectic programming incorporating visual art, dance, film, and other media
- SING! The Future: focusing on the development of new talent, educational outreach to schools, targeting underserved communities, plus the annual Collegiate Showcase for university groups
