about

People First

La Société de l’autisme et des TED de Laval brings together families of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) or Fragile X syndrome.

Our main objectives are as follows:

- Promote the rights and interests of individuals with ASD and their families.

- Identify the needs of affected individuals and their caregivers, and address those needs through specialized services.

- Gather and disseminate information related to autism spectrum disorders and Fragile X syndrome to families, professionals, and the general public. This includes information on cutting-edge therapeutic and medical treatments, studies and research, professional services, and community resources.

- Implement and participate in a collaborative process with partner organizations.

- Encourage parents, professionals, and public decision-makers to reflect and take action towards achieving the goals of the regional and local action plan through thematic committees.

- Provide regional training with partners. We serve clients from early childhood to adulthood in Laval, both with and without intellectual disabilities.

The SATL is a member of the Fédération québécoise de l’autisme, Arapi, CDC Laval, and TED sans Frontières.

The SATL has established the "Puss in Boots Services" to offer respite care on weekends, during the Christmas week, spring break, summer camps, emergency respite, and outings for individuals with autism without intellectual disabilities. We have distinguished ourselves in our region through a pilot project (Challenge) where a group of young individuals aged 16 to 21 with ASD discover the joy of work. Participants are introduced to agriculture, horticulture, woodworking, crafts, pottery, cooking, animal care, and more, as the list continues to grow. This project was carried out at Qualité de Vie Enterprises, in collaboration with la Commission scolaire de Laval..

Additionally, there is a work integration component focused on learning and full-time employment in areas such as agriculture, horticulture, woodworking, ceramics, animal care, cooking, and at the Table Champêtre. This learning takes place through mentorship with skilled artisans at Qualité de Vie Enterprises, in partnership with CRDI Normand Laramée, the Agency, and various other partners. Furthermore, a bio-ecological interpretive center has been established at Qualité de Vie Enterprises; a first in Quebec. A vegetable garden for elementary school children, supervised by individuals with autism, has also been created in the Paris/Laval area.
