about

What We Do

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SSVP) is a lay Catholic organization. Membership is open to all those who desire to live their faith by serving Christ by serving their neighbours. Volunteers with SSVP are called to do Christ’s work in their own communities. These volunteers are called Vincentians.

In parishes where SSVP is active, many Vincentians deliver emergency food baskets to individuals and families in need. Other Vincentians help distribute nutritious food, like bread, canned goods and fresh produce that may otherwise be wasted, or organize parish schools to collect food and money to support SSVP’s work.

In addition to providing food to economically-vulnerable Calgarians, Vincentians sometimes help people access funds for housing, utilities and transportation. Vincentians who conduct Home Visits work with individuals and families who need help accessing other social and economic supports.
