S.O.S. UKRAINE

about

Her ancestors gave it all up for their posterity – their friends, family, language, climate, homes, gardens and more. A “daughter of the soil” who wanted to learn more about them travelled to their homeland.

Since 1995, she’s sent aid to Ukraine. When Carollyne arrived in Ukraine to research her family tree, she was overwhelmed by their pervasive poverty. Most families in villages had no running water. Their salaries were a pittance. They needed immediate aid with food, running water, medicines, clothing.

With teams of volunteers and caring donors, wells were built, bathrooms installed in homes. At that time, many goods were not available in Ukraine. Several times a year, items were shipped from Canada through bounteous donations from friends, churches and colleagues.

Since the February 24, 2022 invasion, we provide for refugees, soldiers, hospitals and orphanages within the country. We support hundreds of internally displaced families who escaped Mariupol, Donetsk, Luhansk and other war-torn towns who have made it to other cities within Ukraine (for example, Dnipro, Kyiv, Chernivtsi).

Many are young mothers with small children, or who recently gave birth under shelling, or are pregnant, as well the elderly, especially those with medical needs and disabilities.

Donations provide families with medicines, food, hygiene items, rent, housing needs, bedding, clothing, baby needs, as well as food, sleeping bags, tourniquets, bandages, gauze, socks and t-shirts for soldiers.

We have volunteers, native Ukrainians, who vet the refugees, or purchase and deliver these items to housebound families, refugee boarding houses, etc.

Every donation provides both hope and life support.

Because we are all volunteer run, we maximize help to the desolate.

Thank you, donors, for your kind hearts!

We have fed, clothed and provided medical aid for many families who tell us they do not know how they would have survived without your help. Single mothers whose husbands have been killed in the war are among those we've assisted, thanks to caring donors.

At the time of starting the charity in 1995, serious health problems were found in every family - cancers from Chernobyl, birth defects, lack of hygiene and proper nutrition. Ukrainian villages were behind by 100 years as there were few cars, many outhouses, and everyone lived on what they grew, weather depending. Now they say that one in four children there are born with a disability. Many of those are on our list.

Many single mothers struggled greatly as desertion of families was commonplace.

Orphanages are crowded as poor families surrender their children, unable to feed them.

Poverty is rising as are hunger and desperation – seen in dumpster diving and rampant depression.

Poverty leads to increased crime and corruption.

Donations not only aid families, but the Ukrainian economy and the stability of the region for all.
