The South Shore Watershed Association (SSWA) was founded in 2011 to coordinate the restoration, enhancement, and protection of the natural health of five adjacent watersheds in the central-southern region of Prince Edward Island. These are (east to west): DeSable River watershed, Westmoreland River watershed, Tryon River watershed, Augustine Cove-Cape Traverse watershed, and Seven Mile Bay watershed.
SSWA also conducts monitoring and research on area wildlife, develops community educational programs, and encourages community engagement in watershed restoration. The restoration of fish habitat is particularly important, especially given the popularity of recreational fishing.
We work closely with other watershed groups, governments, educational agencies, farmers, and others to develop as wide a spectrum of support as possible for our work.
