Springboard Performance is a non-profit organization devoted to connecting artists, audiences, the body and the mind through physical contemporary creation and public space manipulation. We provide opportunities to artists to risk, learn, create, perform and connect with a local, national and international community.
Springboard Performance operates four main arms of programming, tailored to the different facets of our mandates:
Fluid Fest is a hub for artistic exchange. It features many local and national artists that together celebrate a beautiful multiplicity of voices - from the wacky and experimental to the political and poignant, Fluid Fest sinks into interconnections between distinct local creative voices and artists coming our way across many kinds of borders.
ContainR activates public spaces. It's a pop-up art park structured with upcycled shipping containers, and can be adapted to any style of outdoor event! Every year containR hosts change-making, accessible arts programming made for gathering in a variety of neighbourhoods in Calgary.
Our Season Presenting program connects artists and audiences. In it we work to present an exceptional array of indelible performances and experiences created by renowned artists from around the corner and around the world. From internationally recognized works to national artists making their way across Canada, Springboard’s Season Presenting puts Calgary on the map as a touring destination.
Our Community Outreach is to catalyze community and nurture artists. The initiatives span the gamut; workshops, artist talks, education opportunities and creation residencies. Within this arm of programming we ask how we can be a good partner with the artists we present, offering them extra opportunities to teach, speak and connect with Calgarians while also investing in our local artistic community. We also observe gaps in Calgary’s arts economy and seek to build opportunities that close them, including commissioning work, hosting residencies and building learning opportunities into every endeavour.
