EXCITING UPDATE - SEPTEMBER 2020 -
We are moving! The Squamish Food Bank and Squamish Helping Hands are joining forces to create the Under One Roof community food hub. UOR gives us a shared and centralized location from which to provide all our food services to the community. We will no longer be scattered throughout the community.
Under One Roof is a community hub that aims to build a sense of Wellness, Community, and Purpose for people in Squamish. It’s more than just supportive housing, it’s a community food hub, a volunteer hub, a wellness hub and an central access point for supports and services.
Our focus is on building capacity and creating vibrant centre for all. Under One Roof. We want to create a safe and dignified grocery-story shopping experience for all and de-stigmatize the use of food banks. Unlike past conceptions of food bank, the food hub is for everyone and that’s how we destigmatize. Everyone has the right to healthy food. The new food bank will be called 'The Market' and is open to ALL.
Our mission is to operate a low-waste community food hub where food is rescued, repurposed and shared.
Food Market Information
- We will be open for 2 hours, 5 days weeks with a plan to eventually open 7 days a week.
- There is no limit to the number of times people can come and shop. We want people to understand that if they need some milk, they can pop in and get some milk.
- Distribution will be fair.
- Whenever there is someone in need, we can provide food.
- We are increasing our food rescue to reduce waste from our donors. We have an abundance of fresh food and we don’t want it go to waste. We encourage everyone to shop at the market, whether you are in need or whether you want to contribute to saving the planet by shopping by donation.
Stay tuned for more information on Under One Roof. We are hoping to open our doors at the end of September 2020!

COVID 19 RESPONSE, MARCH - AUGUST 2020: Squamish Food Bank is dedicated to feeding those in need and in light of Covid 19 our top priority was to continue helping our community whilst keeping everybody safe. In March, the Squamish Food Bank began our collaboration with Squamish Helping Hands early and we moved to a home delivery model, delivering weekly hampers of nutritious food and supplies to individuals and families who needed support during these tough times. We would typically rely on surplus food from local grocery stores to fill our shelves but we noticed a huge decrease in the amount of staple food items being donated at that time. Therefore we were having to buy most of the food items that went in to the hampers and this was costing around $3,400 per week. Pre Covid 19 we would typically distribute approximately 60 hampers every 2 weeks, Our Covid 19 emergency response operation saw us building and delivering over 200 hampers every week. We expect this to demand to continue or increase as we transition to Under One Roof in the fall of 2020.
Your donations can help provide food for those in our community who need support through these unprecedented times.
Please support the Squamish Food Bank. Thank you!
