A bridge connecting people to community with programs and services in Squamish, B.C.

The Squamish Volunteer Centre Society (SVCS) is a community-oriented non-profit with a brick-and-mortar presence in downtown Squamish, B.C. The SVCS seeks to promote connection to community through volunteering and shared learning, and operates the Squamish Welcome Centre and the Squamish Community Bookstore & Computer Lab.
The programs at the Squamish Welcome Centre are designed with people most likely to be socially excluded in mind - with a special focus on the needs of immigrants, refugees, and newcomers of all types. It is the only centre of its type in Squamish, and one of very few places offering activities and services tailored for this population in Squamish.
"Simply having the Squamish Welcome Centre be a safe space for newcomers in Canada is a great help for individuals facing challenges in their new phase in life." - Carlo O., program participant
Like a lighthouse guiding people to shore safely, the Squamish Welcome Centre strives to be a helpful resource-point that can connect people to the services that will best serve their needs.
But what about the bookstore!? The Squamish Community Bookstore & Computer Lab has a wide selection of second-hand books and a Pay What You Can pricing model. Its overall goal to promote literacy and learning in Squamish. Intergenerational and intercultural pairs of volunteers manage the bookstore as a collective team, sharing experiences and skills while connecting with the broader community.
Any and all support to the Squamish Welcome Centre goes right back into the programs and community. Thank you for being a part of making Squamish a better place.
