St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church’s mission is to transform lives and build community to nourish people in body, mind, and spirit.
St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church’s mission is to transform lives and build community by being a community hub. St. Cuthbert’s strives to better the lives of people of all abilities, ages, ethnicities, faiths, and sexual orientations by providing hospitality, programs, services, supports, worship services, and other experiences that nourish people in body, mind, and spirit. We plan to provide and expand our seniors’ programs, services and events to meet the needs and interests articulated by area residents and other stakeholders. Staff and volunteers provide hospitality, community engagement, scheduling and security that enable the seniors within our parish and community to grow in relationship, capacity, and spiritual, physical and mental health.
The church has been in our current location, in southeast Oakville, since 1959 and have our roots in the area since the 1920’s. We actively serve a multicultural, multifaith community, especially in a wide variety of activities that support physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Programs and services offered at St. Cuthbert’s include being an emergency hub where people in the wider community can access a safe place, resources, supports and services during extreme weather events and other disasters. In the face of the current pandemic we realize just how isolated seniors have become and the importance of being able to continue virtually our Chinese Senior’s Group, Art Classes for Seniors, Chinese Cooking Classes, Senior’s Weekly Meditation Group, Book Club, English Coffee for the Mandarin speaking community and speaking engagements.
St. Cuthbert’s offers worship services, weddings, funerals, social justice and outreach ministries (children’s, youth, men’s and women’s groups, community meals, book studies, concerts and other services). We actively partner with the Oakville Ready initiative, we provide support to new Canadians arriving from China and those involved with refugee resettlement, we provide direct support of food security and community support programs such as Kerr Street Mission and Fare Share Food Bank, the United Way and the Salvation Army, and we participate as members of the Interfaith Council of Halton, the Mission to Seafarers, and as partners with the Halton Environmental Network, Greening Sacred Spaces, and Faith and the Common Good.
The church hosts many no-charge events and activities for seniors throughout the week, especially for Mandarin-speaking residents, and multi-ethnic musical and theatrical arts. We also partner with the Girl Guides, Montessori school and pre-school programs, and recreational activities for seniors, children and youth.
