The Team Sooke/Juan de Fuca Refugee Sponsorship Committee is a group of Sooke region residents and St. Rose of Lima parishioners who came together in response to the 2015-2016 refugee crisis in the Middle East.
Thanks to the contributions of many donors, in 2016 we sponsored an Iraqi family who were victims of ISIS. That family is now self-supporting and thoroughly enjoying life in Canada.
We are submitting a second application in 2019, this time for a Sudanese family with three young children forced to flee their country due to ethnic persecution and religious intolerance. They have lost everything. Our sponsorship is the only chance this family has to rebuild their lives in a safe and welcoming community.
