Now more than ever, individuals and families in the Stonegate community are struggling to access food. Food insecurity continues to be a growing concern with attendance at our local food bank increasing exponentially in the past five years and the number of working poor using its services due to job loss and poor wages on the rise.                                

At Stonegate Community Health Centre, we are working to address food insecurity in our neighbourhood. Through partnerships with FoodShare Toronto and the Christ Church St. James Food Pantry, we offer a variety of programs that improve access to fresh food, enhance nutrition literacy and reduce social isolation.

These include:

• Our seasonal Good Food Market, which provides fresh produce at cost or less for community residents

• Food-based workshops that bring neighbours together to learn, cook and share meals

• Our Good Food Box Holiday Drive, ensuring individuals and families in need have fresh produce during the holidays. 

This year, the need is greater than ever and we are asking for support once again. Since launching the Good Food Box Holiday Drive in 2010, community donors have helped us provide close to 4,500 Good Food Boxes to local households in addition to being able to support a variety of Stonegate CHC food based initiatives. 

A donation of $25 is able to provide a local family a large size Good Food Box brimming with fresh produce.  Each Good Food Box is filled with top-quality fruits and vegetables from local farmers and the Ontario Food Terminal, packed and distributed by FoodShare Toronto. 

100% of donations go towards providing fresh healthy food for those in need.  Charitable tax receipts are available for every donation over $20.  Thank you for your support this holiday season.
