About STRIVE LIVING SOCIETY
Strive Living Society (formerly the Howe Sound Rehabilitation Services Society) is a registered nonprofit organization that provides community and residential services for children, youth, adults, and seniors with diverse abilities. Founded in 1988, Strive serves Greater Vancouver, as well as the Sunshine Coast, and is CARF accredited. Strive also provides home care services for anyone requiring additional support.
Strive Living Society has nearly 30 years of experience providing day program services to adults with diverse abilities. In 1992, Community Living BC started funding an in-home day program for adults with disabilities through Strive’s group homes, called the Footprints Day Program. Since then, Footprints has grown from a handful of clients to over 40 participants serviced at multiple locations.
In 2001, the Supported Independent Living Program was launched to provide one-to-one community based support to adults with disabilities and today services over 30 individuals across the Lower Mainland.
In 2004, Strive opened the Headway Centre clubhouse for adults with acquired brain injury in the New Westminster area. In 2005 and 2006, Strive opened two Assisted Living apartment buildings for young adults with physical disabilities and offers a day program from both facilities. In 2006, the Community Leisure Program emerged from a partnership with the Fraser Health Authority's ABI program, to provide one-to-one recreational and leisure supports to adults in the FHA region. In 2009, Strive opened a second Headway Centre in the Vancouver area to service Vancouver adults with ABI. In 2010, Strive branched out to Powell River and started both residential and day program services for children and adults in the Sunshine Coast region.
Strive Centre Vancouver opened in June 2015, creating a hub for individuals with diverse abilities. The centre provides scheduled leisure, educational, and recreational activities. We currently operate a Strive Centre in Coquitlam, Vancouver, New Westminster, North Vancouver, and Powell River.
