FOUNDING
Sturgeon Lake Sailing Club was founded in 1956 by a group of forward thinking and dedicated individuals. The sailing club has offered sailing instruction for over 50 summers to hundreds and hundreds of local children. The club has evolved over time and the boats and people have changed but the nature of the place has not changed at all. The friendly environment where young people learn to sail and learn good sportsmanship remains.
OUTREACH
Part of our Club’s mandate is to introduce as many children as possible to the joy and empowerment offered by sailing. Our morning Learn to Sail programme leaves many afternoons free for outreach opportunities where we provide sailing instruction to groups of boys and girls who would not regularly have such an opportunity. Annually, more than 50 children from the Kawartha Lakes Boys and Girls Club are engaged in an opportunity to sail and we continue to expand our partnership with children's charities in the region.
