Within the next three years, we must relocate our Food Bank & Resource Centre because the Church building we reside in will be sold. In 2021 we purchased a vacant lot next to our partner of 39 years, Summerland United Church. Our plan is to sell both properties to an affordable housing non-profit society that will build approximately 60 affordable apartments above a ground floor that will house a new Food Bank & Resource Centre facility. Our turnkey cost to buy back into the building project will be approximately $1.6 Million. The value of our land is currently appraised at $675,000 and we have already raised $240,000. This leaves us with $685,000 still to be raised. Our immediate need, however, is to be sure that we can raise the first $1,100,000 in land, investments, cash or pledges by early 2024 to show that we have the capacity to purchase the shell space that we will need in the new building. We will then have two years of demolition and construction to raise the remaining cost of our required improvements.
