Our mission it to give the gift of camp to children and youth whose families experience financial barriers that prevent them from participating in healthy recreation activities.
One in 4 children in Manitoba live below the poverty line which means health recreation opportunities are very difficult to access which is why programs like ours are necessary for the health and well being of children and youth.
About Our Charity
Camp should be one of the most exciting times in a child’s life, yet due to financial barriers so many children in Manitoba are unable to participate.
The Manitoba Camping Association and Sunshine Fund provide 750 children from financially disadvantaged families with the opportunity to experience camp each summer.
All children should have equal opportunities to participate in healthy recreation activities. By giving the gift of camp this holiday season you will make a lasting difference in the life a child.
The camp experience is recognized by child development professionals as valuable in helpingchildren mature socially, emotionally, intellectually, morally, and physically.
Research confirms that summer camp experience for young people accounted for significantpositive growth in:
• Attitude towards physical activity
• Self-esteem and self confidence
• Emotional intelligence
• Social interaction & citizenship
• Environmental awareness
• Transfer of learning to home and school
“The building blocks of self-esteem are belonging, learning, and contributing. Camps offer unique opportunities for children to succeed in these three vital areas and even beyond home and school.” Michael Popkin, Ph.D., familytherapist and founder of Active Parenting
