About SURVIVORS OF ABUSE RECOVERING (S.O.A.R.) SOCIETY
S.O.A.R. (Survivors of Abuse Recovering) is a community based, consumer driven, Peer Counselling service offered to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. SOAR also offers education and insight, through public information sessions, on survivor issues, so that survivors can feel more supported and understood in their healing process.
Established in 1993, S.O.A.R. has almost a quarter-century of providing peer counselling and support services to adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Anyone can self-refer, but we also get many referrals from Mental Health and Addictions of the Nova Scotia Health Authority, and from local not-for-profit agencies. Peer support works well as complementary to professional therapeutic services.
While we occasionally get project funding for training and other activities, we have no core funding, so your donations are crucial to our continued capacity to serve the community.
