Stepping Towards a Greener Tomorrow takes kids out of the back seat (figuratively and literally) and gets them involved in planning healthy communities. The kids at Connaught School wanted to turn their busy downtown road into a place for people to play and connect. We have some of the funding we need to make it happen, but we want to get their big ideas built!
Help us prototype an Open Street in the Beltline!
The Beltline is one of the densest and most historic neighbourhoods in Calgary, and Connaught Elementary School and it’s 410 students occupy an entire block of the neighbourhood. Dangerous driving and illegal parking make the street feel unsafe for playing and walking to school, but the kids had some ideas about how to make the street amazing for everyone.
Help us make their ideas a reality!
There are a ton of ways you can contribute - from practical permitting fees to pretty planters. Check it out below:
Buy the street for a week!
$26 pays for the weekly permit to open 10th Street to people!
Be idle without the Idling
Moveable benches that give folks a place to rest and chat - seats can be moved around to create space for different types of events and gatherings!
Paint the pavement
63$ buys one can of paint to make streets pop! [9 needed total]
Planters
Add some greenery to the school street with planters that double as barriers, separating people from traffic.
Plants
Botany plants lately? The bees will love it if you do! 5$'s gets you lavender, and $10's buys native grasses.
