Bach Before Bedtime introduces children to an interactive, and sensory-stimulating series of chamber music concerts throughout the year.
Allegra is a non-profit organization that needs your support to achieve our mission: (1) to deliver a unique, professional chamber music experience and (2) to nurture an appreciation for this music genre among children.
Who We Are
For 43 years, our Artistic Director, Dorothy Fieldman Fraiberg, has assembled musicians, many drawn from the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, to perform an innovative program of works, free of charge, to enthusiastic audiences through Allegra Chamber Music. Twelve years ago, in addition to our regular series of evening concerts, Allegra launched Bach Before Bedtime (“BBB”) which introduces young and impressionable audiences to chamber music in fun and interactive settings at Place-des-arts and McGill University. This program of 25 concerts per season has been recognized by local media as an enormous success (with tickets selling-out in one day) and has “opened the door” for many would-be young musicians. BBB continues to expand and its current season includes special performances by ballet dancers, acrobats, opera and jazz singers and also featured a reading by children’s author Deborah Goodman Davis. Allegra is a grassroots organization, steered by volunteers, with minimal administrative overhead.
Allegra impacts 4,500 children, 1,500 families and 25 daycares every year.
