St. Paul’s Anglican Community Committee (SPACC) is made up of members of St. Paul’s past congregation and residents of Delta and the surrounding area. The committee was formed out of concern that after the congregation decided to discontinue regular services, the history of St. Paul’s and its connection to the community would be lost forever. Our vision, in partnership with the Anglican Diocese of Ontario, is to transform St. Paul’s into a community centre with the objective of providing space and facilities to host community programs and services, especially for the more vulnerable residents of our community.
Why St. Paul’s?The historical and cultural value of St. Paul’s Anglican Church lies in its tenure as one of the oldest churches in Canada, and as a site which has acted as a place of worship for three different religious congregations at one time. Begun in 1811, St. Paul’s became a focal place in the community, and not just for those who gathered to worship on Sunday mornings. Whether it was the anxious groom waiting for his bride, the young parents with their infant waiting to be baptized, or the family being comforted by friends and loved ones, St. Paul’s has provided a warm and welcoming venue for community fellowship, where the Grace of God and the love of neighbours and friends have touched people’s hearts and minds in profound and life-giving ways. Now, more than 200 years later, the time has come for St. Paul’s to take a new role in the life of the church and the community it serves.
Our Commitment to YouWhen you make a donation to the St. Paul’s Anglican Community Centre you can do so with the assurance that your donation will be used to fund programs in support of the residents of Delta and the surrounding community and to aid in the restoration of the facilities.
Our PlanThere are three components to our plan: refurbishing of the former Church (essentially complete); re-design and restoration of the hall at the rear of the church; and landscaping of the grounds to accommodate a children’s play area as well as a community gathering space. The church is available now (with some minor restrictions) for concerts, recording sessions, meetings, and civic or religious ceremonies of any denomination. Revenues generated from the use of the church will be used to cover operation costs and fund community programs. The design drawings for the hall and landscaping are almost complete. Once approved, we can begin restoration of the hall and related landscaping.
