The Charlottetown Film Society

about

City Cinema - Charlottetown's independent movie theatre

The Charlottetown Film Society was formed in 2012 and one of its primary objectives was to take ownership and assume operation of City Cinema.

The  Charlottetown Film Society purchased City Cinema in March 2019 and is dedicated to carrying out our mandate to contribute to the province's film culture and provide opportunities for film appreciation.

We have finally managed to replace our projector, and we are thrilled to say that thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters we have paid off most of the $53,200 cost. Naturally expenses continue to rise - now the heat pump in the projection booth needs replacing. By donating to The Charlottetown Film Society, you will instantly receive a charitable tax receipt, and know that you are helping City Cinema continue operating for the next 30 years!

As PEI’s popular independent theatre, owned and operated by The Charlottetown Film Society, City Cinema has grown into a hub where community can gather for the study, appreciation, and celebration of film. We aim to continue showing the films our audience is looking for - art films, independent films, Canadian and PEI-made films, foreign films, classics… those great movies that are not found at mainstream cinemas.

All donations will receive an official receipt for income tax purposes.

* A donation of $1000 will be acknowledged on a wall plaque in the cinema foyer.
