Community Arts Council of the Alberni Valley

about

Introduction

The Community Arts Council (CAC) considers art and the arts as the expression of human creative skill and imagination. Art is in both the mind of the creator and the eye of the beholder, and individual expressions of art may or may not have a useful or practical application. In its myriad forms – music, dance, design, drawing and painting, creative writing, quilting, crafting, woodworking, toolmaking, and so on – art is a vehicle for the communication of human ideas and the full range of emotions. It always stimulates a personal and individual response. Art provokes thought and stimulates brain activity. It pushes the boundaries of creativity to new levels and in new directions. Art can bridge across generations and cultures to inspire, challenge, heal, and reconcile. Art is at the essence of our being and at the soul of a community. Where it is recognized and celebrated, people and communities thrive.

Our Vision

The Alberni Valley embraces and supports arts and culture in all its forms and recognizes the arts as a foundation on which to build a thriving, healthy community. Through the arts, the Valley builds community connections and realizes social and economic benefits, contributing to an enriched quality of life for all.

The Community Arts Council is recognized and supported as the umbrella (coordinating) agency promoting and advocating for the arts. As a result of leadership provided by the CAC, all organizations within the arts sector are thriving and working together to ensure that art continues to be a catalyst for individual, community, and economic growth.

A vibrant, healthy, prosperous community through the arts!
