Right now, hunger is growing in south Mississauga faster than ever before.

Families are being pushed to the brink by the soaring cost of food, rent, and everyday necessities. Seniors are forced to choose between groceries and life-saving medication. Parents are doing everything they can to keep food on the table, yet too many children still arrive at school hungry.

At The Compass Food Bank & Outreach Centre, we are seeing the impact every week.

In 2025, we have supported 6,567 individuals, and one in three was a child. As the cost of living continues to rise, that number keeps climbing and the need is no longer occasional or temporary. For many, food insecurity has become a constant struggle.

Founded in 2002, The Compass is more than a food bank. We are one of the only food banks in Canada providing weekly access to healthy, nutritious food, because hunger doesn’t wait for once a month. We also serve as an outreach centre, connecting people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness to essential supports, always with dignity and compassion.

While donations of food are always appreciated, financial donations are critical. They allow us to respond immediately when shelves are empty, demand spikes, or urgent needs arise, ensuring no one is turned away hungry.
