The Concerned Kids educates elementary school-aged children through the uniquely engaging art of interactive puppetry, empowering young people to make smarter and kinder choices, to spur dialogue, action & create positive change in their communities, further enabling schools and neighbourhoods to become a safer place to live, learn and play.
With our inventory of 60+ life-sized puppets that represent a diverse group of ethnicities, abilities, and gender-based characters, that reflects Toronto’s multiculturalism and diversity, TCK currently presents 13 age appropriate programs with 23 scripts. These scripts deal with a variety of issues including Life Lessons, Safety Lessons, Bullying Prevention, Accepting Differences, Mental Health, Understanding Consent, Healthy Kids, Vandalism & Graffiti Prevention, Cyberbullying, Peer Pressure & Substance Abuse. Soon we hope to launch our Gender Expression, Sexual Diversity & Different Families program.
To date we have performed to more than 550,000 students. The performances are both educational and interactive. The scripts are developed by professional writers, educators, and industry professionals. Each show lasts about 30 minutes, with ample time for discussion following the presentation. The children also have an opportunity to engage with the puppets. After each performance, students receive Activity Sheets on the topic witnessed, furthering the conversation in the classroom, with their peers and family at home.
