finding and recovering drowned victims, easing distress for loved ones
The Deep Water Quests Society is a professional volunteer-driven organization based out of Sicamous committed to helping families, friends and communities who experience added trauma when their loved one drowns without a trace.
When requested, DWQ deploys specialized side scan sonar equipment to locate drowned victims. DWQ can also mobilize an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to assist in recovery operations when requested by authorities.
While based on the Shuswap Lake system in Sicamous, B.C., the team and boat will eventually be able to travel to any freshwater location in British Columbia.
Each year, people drown in B.C. waters. Suffering is compounded for families and friends when a loved one drowns and their body is not found. Without proof of death, the ‘family’s loss becomes a story with no ending.’ Locating and recovering the body of a drowned victim helps minimize the suffering of individuals, families and their communities as they deal with grief and loss.
The Deep Water Quests Society (DWQ) is the only community volunteer society in BC offering this service on a not-for-profit basis. Our work is grounded in compassion.
