St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Newtown, NL

St Luke's church is a historic building that is important for both architecture, and it's testament to a way of life. Today many churches like this have fallen into disrepair due to aging populations and declining volunteer efforts. Donate today to help us upkeep this beautiful church and maintain the historic architecture and craftsmanship for both our congregation and the many visitors to our community.St Luke's Anglican Church is a wooden, vernacular Gothic Revival style church that was built between 1892 - 1895 in scenic Newtown, Bonavista Bay, Newfoundland. This church is recognized as a registered Heritage structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador because of its aesthetic and historical value. Additional information can be found on Newfoundland Built Heritage Page on Facebook.

St Luke’s is situated in a picture perfect environmental setting on one of the small islands that make up the community of Newtown. This church once served as a navigational aid for fishermen in the area, and all of Newtown can be viewed from inside the bell tower . Today, it is one of the most photographed churches in Newfoundland. The Church was constructed by a community of volunteers in the late 1800’s but due to liability and safety regulations, the current restoration has to be done by qualified professionals .This project consists of restoration and complete painting of the wooden structure to maintain its original beauty and continue to be a safe and reverent space for it’s congregation and those who visit. We hope and pray that, with the financial assistance of our donors and with God’s blessings, we will be able to successfully complete this necessary project by the end of summer of 2023.
