The Dominican - Canadian Community Development Group

about

Our Mission

The purpose of the Dominican - Canadian Community Development Group (DCCD) is to promote social and economic justice in the Dominican Republic, and awareness of these issues in Canada. We are building a partnership between countries to organize and promote self-help projects and educate both Canadians and Dominicans in order to improve the basic living conditions in the Dominican Republic. We recognize that our reality and opportunity in Canada is for many Dominicans, only a dream. We recognize our responsibility as human beings to help bridge the gap between our two realities.

About The Dominican - Canadian Community Development Group

The DCCD is a not-for-profit charitable organization based out of Ontario’s Niagara Region run by volunteers from all over Niagara, Toronto and the Dominican Republic. Co-founded in 2001 by current Board Members; Alicia Morgan and Quinn de Vries, the DCCD has collaborated with Canadian & Dominican partner organizations and communities on various community development projects over the years. All of these projects have been based in the Dominican and range from solar-powered water systems and organic farming to educational support and health-outreach for the elderly.

The DCCD strongly supports the practices of solidarity and empowerment through sustainable community initiatives. Through these practices, the DCCD is presently focusing on mobilizing communities in the Dominican and opening pathways to economic and capacity building opportunities through:

  • Engaging Dominican & Haitian youth in areas of post-secondary education, technical skills training and capacity building
  • Providing Dominican & Haitian agricultural workers with technical skills training in organic farming practices
  • Supporting the on-going development and program operations of local educational organizations working with Dominican & Haitian children, youth and women
