To provide a lifelong home to donkeys, mules, and hinnies who are unwanted, neglected, or abused, or whose owners can no longer care for them; and to promote the responsible stewardship of all animals through humane education.

About THE DONKEY SANCTUARY OF CANADA

Since 1992, The Donkey Sanctuary of Canada has been a caring haven for donkeys, mules, and hinnies facing neglect or abuse, or those whose owners can no longer care for them. Imagine rescuing a donkey with painfully long hooves or a scared mule in a slaughterhouse pen – that's the kind of help we provide. We even offer a forever home to cherished donkeys whose owners are no longer able to care for them.

Our Sanctuary, spread across 200 acres of tranquility, is a peaceful retreat for animals that have endured years of suffering and neglect. Our goal is simple: surround these animals with compassion, dignity, and the respect they truly deserve. The Sanctuary farm, along with our satellite host farms, has been a haven for rescued animals for over 30 years. And here's the heartwarming part – it's all thanks to the support of generous private donations, as we're a not-for-profit charity.

Currently, we're looking after over 100 equines (donkeys, mules, and hinnies – the equine family) at our main farm, and more than 70 are receiving care at our host farms. Every day, we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to care for these gentle souls. Beyond rescuing and caring for animals, we're also passionate about promoting humane education.
